Alphonse Daga was born in 1924 in the Western Solomons. He was educated at Kokeqolo School in Western District, and first joined the government service at the Trades Scheme Store at Hombo Hombo. Before that, in 1943-1944, he spent a year as a Sergeant in the Solomon Islands Labour Corps. He transferred to the Public Works Department in 1946 and served at Gizo and Honiara. Daga joined the Geographical Surveys Department in 1964 and retired in 1970 as Senior Executive Officer. In 1970, he was Secretary of the Civil Servants' Association and Treasurer of the United Church in Honiara. Married with three children, he received an M.B.E. in 1970. (NS 15 Jan. 1970)
