Clement Ofai was born in Kakara in north Malaita on 21 January 1921. An Anglican, he was educated at St Mary's at Maravovo (q.v.) on Guadalcanal (1933-1938), All Hallows' School at Pawa (q.v.) on Ugi (1938-1942), and at Suva at Queen Victoria College at Suva (1942) and the Fiji School of Medicine (1943-1946). He visited Australia and New Zealand in 1942. He served as a BSIP Native Medical Practitioner/Assistant Medical Officer from 1946 until he retired in 1967. Ofai was elected Legislative Council (q.v.) member for North Malaita in 1967, and in 1970 took the equivalent post in the Governing Council. In 1970 he was married with seven children.
