Details

In 1878, Luke Masuraa from Small Malaita was taken to the Melanesian Mission School on Norfolk Island. He returned to Sa'a to help Joe Wate (q.v.) to establish a mission school, and suffered tremendous opposition from local leaders. He left for Fiji with Richard Comins (q.v.) in 1904, and after his ordination he and his wife Alice returned to Port Adam and South Malaita, where they remained until his death in 1917. Charles Fox (q.v.) described him as 'a small, tough, fiery fellow' with authority. (Fox 1958, 169)
