Biographical entry: Noemie, Sister (1889 - 1977)

Sister Noemie, born in 1889, came to the Solomons in 1911 from France as a Catholic nun, and never returned home. During the Second World War she was evacuated to New Caledonia, and then returned. She spent most of her years at Tangarare on Guadalcanal, where she taught housecraft to local women until she was sixty-two years old. She then returned to Visale, where she became blind, and died on 6 December 1977 after sixty-six years serving the Solomons. (SND 9, 16 Dec. 1977)
