Details

Brian Mansfield-Dunn, born in 1940 in Hertfordshire, England, arrived in the Protectorate in November 1965 and was posted as missionary health worker at Atoifi Adventist Hospital in Uru Harbour on Malaita. On 16 December he was speared through his body with a steel reinforcement rod, probably by someone angry over a land dispute he had involved himself in. Taken by boat to Fauabu Hospital on the other side of the island, Dunn was transferred to Central Hospital for an operation but died from his injury on 19 December. On 24 December two men were charged with his murder, but then acquitted. (NS 21 Dec. 1965, 7 Jan, 21 Feb. 1966; Allan 1990, pt. 2, 158)
