Biographical entry: Gina, John Lianga (1933 - )



Born in 1933 at Roviana Lagoon, Western Province, John Lianga Gina joined the Solomon Islands Police in August 1954. He received four promotions and six recommendations from the Chief of Police for his detective work, and in 1966 he was promoted from Detective-Station Sergeant at Central District Police headquarters to Detective Sub-Inspector. He was the first Solomon Islander to hold this rank, although there were already uniformed Sub-Inspectors. (NS 7 May 1966)
