George Giladi was born on Isabel Island and worked as a missionary for the Melanesian Mission (q.v.) on Vella Lavella in the 1900s until Bishop Wilson (q.v.) recalled teachers in 1907 and left the island to the Methodist Mission. Giladi was ordained a deacon in 1920 and a priest in 1924. He worked on Makira for twenty years, retiring to Isabel where he died in 1956. Charles Fox (q.v.) described him as 'the oldest priest and one of the most respected and loved in the Mission'. (Fox 1958, 162)
