Details
Woodford School was a private school for expatriate children located in the centre of Honiara. Initially the school was housed in the British Red Cross Society's building, and its students were enrolled in the New Zealand Correspondence School. Because student numbers were increasing, the government decided in July 1954 to convert an existing building into a school and to follow a normal curriculum conducted by a trained teacher. (AR 1953-1954, 26) Miss Heseltine was Headmistress until 1965, followed by Miss Janice Wilkie, who had arrived in 1962. The school was situated in the centre of Honiara. It was moved to a less-central location at Kukum, and replaced by the present Plaza shopping and office complex. (NS 21 Aug. 1967)
