Corporate entry: Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency
Details
In 1977, Honiara was chosen as the site of the South Pacific Forum's South Pacific Regional Fisheries Agency, a new body tasked with protecting the Pacific's fish resources. Established in 1979, it operated out of a government house at Lengakiki until its headquarters were completed in 1984. The names were later altered: the South Pacific Forum became the Pacific Forum in 2000, and the South Pacific Regional Fisheries Agency was renamed the Pacific Islands Forum Fishing Agency.
