Corporate entry: British Solomon Islands Society for the Advancement of Science and Industry

The Society was established in 1951 to promote the study and acquisition of scientific and industrial knowledge relating to the Protectorate and other Pacific Islands. Its aim was to collect for preservation publications, books, records and manuscripts relating to the Solomon Islands, and to publish its transactions. The first President was Dr W. H. McDonald. Three volumes of Proceedings were published between 1952 an 1956, when the Society lapsed. It was revived in 1966, only to lapse again. (PIM July 1952; NS 7 Mar. 1966)
