Alvin J. and Gertrude Blum (q.v.) were involved in a variety of Honiara and Auki businesses and began a small rest house on Hibiscus Avenue, Honiara in 1964. Individual bathrooms were added in 1966 and the accommodation wing was extended in 1968. Blum's Hometel and its Hibiscus Room restaurant were sold in 1976 to Hibiscus Hotels Ltd. and eventually became the King Solomons Hotel of today. The original accommodation rooms are now part of that hotel's shopping arcade.
